*Osceola, Wisconsin*
*Week long Cob Workshop *
*June 13th - June 19th 2009*
*Osceola, Wisconsin*
The workshops being offered are a continuation of the workshops held last summer when we started a bale-cob studio. Bale-cob uses a combination of building techniques; straw bale and cob construction.
The structure we are working on is round, 14 feet in diameter with a loft. It will be heated using a rocket stove. The rocket stove also will also heat a radiant floor system, using earthen flooring material. Last year we completed the foundation, and the walls. During the winter the rocket stove, windows, and the loft were installed.
This season we expect to complete the remainder of the bale-cob walls, attach the roof rafters, complete the living roof, build the cob bench, install the radiant floor system, pour an earthen floor, and apply both interior and exterior plasters.
These workshops will focus primarily on building with cob, getting the roof on, and plastering. Both workshops will consist of: building, sharing meals, and discussions. Three meals per day and camping accommodations will be provided. The cost for these workshops is $25 per day per person. Or if you attend the entire scheduled workshop there is a 30% discount. Opportunities for work/trade are available.
Bryan Burnoski has been traveling over the past several years learning about natural building and ways of living that make sense and that nurture the earth. During the summer of 2007 Bryan completed an apprenticeship with Cob Cottage Company in Oregon. This has enabled him to build and learn from some very
knowledgeable and experienced people in the field of natural building. Other building projects Bryan has been
involved with or managed include, two homes built using cob/bale with round wood timers, composting toilets, living roofs, earthen floors, rocket stoves, benches, and earthen ovens.
Sharing with others the knowledge Bryan has acquired constructing natural structures is what Bryan
passionate about. Bryan is also interested in creating networks where people can find support and resources for building with natural materials.
