2009 Growing Power - Commercial Urban Agriculture Training

I got this link through the community gardens list serv and thought I should bring it up, especially in light of the urban farmer initiative we are undertaking this year. Are there plans to send our urban farmers to this, to combine efforts in any way?

2009 Growing Power - Growing Farmers
Commercial Urban Agriculture Training Program

This training program is comprised of five workshops. Participants should plan to attend and actively participate in all five weekend (3-day, Friday through Sunday) trainings. The 2009 dates are:

January 9th through 11th

February 20th through 22nd

March 6th through 8th

April 17th through 19th

May 15th through 17th

The program is designed for individuals who have made the decision and are ready to begin their farming enterprise in the city. The weekend program will consist of three days of training, including 1 ½ days of a classroom-based training, and 1½ days of hands-on, “get-your-hands-dirty” training.

Both the classroom setting and the hands-on training are designed as a very participative adult education training program. Many topics will be covered during the five-month time period, and an outline of the proposed schedule is included here. While the basic outline (curriculum) for the training will be followed, this is a program designed with the learners in mind and will evolve through the five months to meet the needs of the participants in this year’s program.

The training program will be focused on individual’s unique needs both during the on-site training, and in one-one contact in the months between the in-person meetings. Time will be devoted during the first meeting in January to describe each participant’s enterprise, and to focus on the project plan and begin the development of an individual business plan for each farming enterprise.
