Guided Oak Savanna Landscape Walk
|
Come and join us as we stroll the Helen Allison Oak Savanna in East Bethel. The Helen Allison Oak Savanna is a Nature Conservancy site next door to Cedar Creek Natural Area located on the Anoka Sand Plain. We will spend the morning enjoying, observing, and discussing this excellent example of oak savanna. This beautiful native Minnesota habitat was once a prominent ecosystem in the area. Our guided landscape walk is a unique opportunity to get to see and feel what an oak savanna is really like while learning about the ecosystem. The native oak savanna plant community is the best template for pemaculture food production in the Midwest. This open habitat is highly productive and provides numerous examples of how we can set up a permaculture food system in cold climate. Join us on a walk through one of the the very few intact examples of an oak savanna – Helen Allison Scientific and Natural Area. We'll examine plant relationships, soils, hydrology and the role of people in the system. Our tour guide will be Fred Rozumalski, from the PRI Teachers Guild – a trained landscape architect, permaculture designer and incredible plant identifier. Free and open to the public. |
