Evelyn Hadden Bio

Evelyn J. Hadden coordinates membership and communications for PRI Cold Climate and edits PRI's periodic email newsletter, Cold Climate Circular.  Her work for PRI is all about making connections -- connecting members and interested folks with the resources to continue learning and doing permaculture; connecting with other organizations and the media to publicize PRI's events and activities; connecting people to our community by sharing their stories on our website and in our newsletter.

Evelyn's interest in permaculture started when she picked up Christopher Alexander's life-changing book A Pattern Language. Alexander describes a set of patterns and relationships to explain key concepts about how humans relate to our built and natural environments, and how these places shape our relationships with each other and our deepest emotions and thoughts. These "patterns" were not noticed or valued by traditional fields like architecture and economics; however, many are central to permaculture.

When she's not working for PRI Cold Climate, Evelyn feels lucky that she can combine her interests in ecologically sound landscaping, writing, and nature photography.  She is an award-winning author who travels around the country speaking to groups about how to shrink their lawns. She also founded and edits the informational website LessLawn.com.
